Seriously Working!

Seriously Working!

The last time I posted a blog, I did not have much to say, because back then I had only some plans and ideas. But know, things have changed quite a bit.

We had our second live meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece in November and I was lucky enough to participate in the meeting. Besides the fact that Panos was a great host for us and we were very well entertained, we had two very long meeting sessions, during which we discussed a lot of different problems (for some of them I was really off-topic, but I managed to keep up with the other guys :D). Thus, I found out how the IVSA board deals with problems. It felt really great sharing my ideas and having the others agree with me, making me feel like my point of view does count!

Since my last report, a lot of people from my Faculty found out that I am one of the IVSA Officials and, of course, I was bombarded with a lot of questions like “What do you do as a Secretary?”, “Do you have easier access to the information about vet student programs now?”, “What can we do to join IVSA?”, “What is the Development Fund?”. At first, it was a bit hard for me to choose the right words for my answers, but after I started the real work, my answers have sparked their interest on IVSA, and I think that our MO will grow bigger and bigger still.

I did not really work that much with matters regarding scholarships (because Sofie did almost all of that job), but I had the chance to read a lot of reports, and it was really interesting and fun to find out about people’s impressions on it. Most people write about their school life, clinics, and the equipment of the Faculties, but there are some people who expressed themselves in a different manner: they described their teachers, how well organized their school timetable is, and even where you can buy the cheapest beer. I’ve selected the best quotes that I found, and some of them are on the website.

My main job was dealing with all the merchandise, so I had the chance to make my plans come alive! I did a lot of research on the global market to see where we can find the best items for us in terms of price/quality, and (of course) it was China J. Negotiating with the merchandisers was a bit of a pain, because they did not understand what IVSA is, and they were always trying to sell me thousands of items, and I kept insisting “No, we need only 50-100”, but they kept asserting that “You are international association, you should buy more!”. Anyway, after several months, I found the best supplier for us, and so starting from the Taiwan Symposium, the D.F. will sell (beside hoodies and pins): phone cases, passport holders and tea/coffee mugs!

I hope all of you are well, and I wish you a very productive 2016!
