The Small Animal Clinic of LMU Munich, one of Germany’s leading veterinary teaching hospitals, invites applications for a Specialized Surgical Internship position, starting July 1st, 2026 or earlier.
This position is designed as an entry position with the clear intention to transition into an ECVS-approved Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the earliest possible time, depending on eligibility and performance.


LMU´s Small Animal Clinic is a high-volume, referral-based university hospital exclusively treating dogs and cats, with a 24/7 emergency and intensive care service. The clinic offers a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with board-certified specialists (ECVS, ECVIM, ECVD, ECVN, ECVIM-CA, ECVAA, ECVSMR).


Position details

  • Start date: July 1st, 2026 (or earlier by agreement)
  • Contract: initially 1 year
  • Employment: 50% position (TV-L E14, German public service salary scheme)
  • Emergency, night and on-call duties are compensated separately according to tariff
  • Application deadline: February 25th, 2026


Responsibilities

  • Clinical evaluation, diagnostics and surgical treatment of small animal patients under specialist supervision
  • Participation in emergency and on-call services
  • Perioperative and inpatient case management
  • Teaching and supervision of veterinary students
  • Participation in clinical research and academic activities


Your profile

  • Veterinary degree with eligibility for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Germany
  • Strong interest in specialization in small animal surgery
  • Prior clinical experience in small animal surgery
  • Completion of a rotating internship or equivalent clinical training is highly desirable
  • Good command of German language, both spoken and written, is required
