First Month As The IVSA AWC Chairman, Exciting!

First month as the IVSA AWC Chairman, Exciting!

I’m really glad for the opportunity to reach all IVSA members through this blog sharing with you my first experience as an IVSA official.

So, how does it work?

You get nominated, elected, and all of a sudden you find yourself involved in the work so fast!

For me, it was my first time I getting elected, which happened last congress in Cluj- Napoca (2015), as the Animal Welfare Committee Chairman. The day after my election, I found myself as the new chair already meeting the Animal world protection representatives who were giving a presentation on animal welfare during the congress. I didn’t expect it, but it actually boosted my enthusiasm to start working on the committee!

Furthermore, being at this position, I am responsible alongside the committee to create and modify policy statements and position papers which would represent IVSA’s views on animal welfare in different topics. In addition, we will be responsible for conducting various projects and creating opportunities to better chances of the animal welfare and its importance all around the world.IMG_20150830_093415

As you probably know, every term for officials starts on the 1st of September, but let me tell you a secret, it actually starts way earlier! For example, I had to organize a handover with the previous official, “Shadi”, to continue the work that he and his committee were working on. As a committee chair, I work with the committee coordinator “Aqil” as well, who is responsible for all the committees as a whole. We have been doing online meetings to help me work my way through creating a committee, which is the first thing you would be doing as a chair.

Recently, the application period has ended and next step is to choose the new animal welfare committee! At the same time, we discussed a lot of ideas and possible projects that the committee would be conducting and how to achieve the goals we set for the committee for the upcoming year.

To know more, you can stay updated with our projects arranged by visiting the AWC facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ivsaanimalwelfare?fref=ts And if you have any question about the animal welfare committee, never hesitate to contact us.

My best regards,

Wasseem Tahboub,

Animal Welfare Committee Chairman 2015-2016
